Finding Dory made some major moves at the box office this weekend and not saying that I marked my calendar to see this movie featuring Ellen Degeneres, but let’s just say that the movie didn’t disappoint!
According to The Hollywood Reporter:
Finding Dory easily topped the box-office chart, while Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart’s Central Intelligence did solid business in its opening, earning $34.5 million from 3,508 theaters to come in No. 2. Some rival studios have the action-comedy coming in higher, but Sunday’s NBA Finals Game 7 could subdue moviegoing later on Father’s Day.
Overseas, Finding Dory grossed $50 million as it rolled out in 32 percent of the marketplace for a global bow of $186.2 million, including a Pixar-best $17.5 million in China and $7.6 million in Australia.
The underwater story centers around Dory–who suffers from short term memory loss–trying to find her parents whom she lost years ago. With the help of her friends Marlin and of course Nemo, Dory meets a slew of new underwater creatures including—a septapus named Hank played by Ed O’Neil and two territorial walrus’ played by The Wire alums Dominic West (McNulty) and Idris Elba– as she tries to locate her mom and dad.
