Instagram is now trying to play with the number of likes you get which would be a major shift in the functionality. They are trying to make it where it could have a positive effect on users, some of whom struggle with mental health problems exacerbated by social media
Based on the code found in the app the company is seriously considering hiding the number of likes that a post receives and instead focuses on who liked the image.

The photo sharing site is testing a design change that would hide how many people have liked a post, tipster Jane Manchun Wong tweeted Thursday.
“We want your followers to focus on what you share, not how many likes your posts get,” reads an Instagram app screenshot Wong shared. “During this test, only the person who shared a post will see the total number of likes it gets.”
