One of our close sources had a recent run in with Oprah while she was in DC visiting the National Museum of African American History and Culture.
Winfrey told sources that the Emmitt Till exhibit reminded her of how history repeats itself. Till was a black boy lynched in 1955 that led to the civil rights movement. As she was coming into the light of current she compared today’s police shootings along with the civil right movements during the 50’s and 60’s , she opened up about how nothing has really changed.
The funny thing about this is that I posted the same thing on my social media platforms and my close “friends” and “family” thought I was nuts! America has a taught behavior of “PASSIVE AGGRESSIVENESS”. We tend to sweep things under the rug or act as if it never happened. Then when history repeats itself we say things like “What is happening in America today ?” “What is the world coming too?” What’s happening is what has ALWAYS been happening. Coming from a small town in the most southern part of Georgia, OPPRESSION still existed. It was only ignored or kept quiet…….it never LEFT.
I’m going to have to side with Oprah on this one, nothing changed. She also spoke on her beliefs on whether or not Obama has been the greatest black president of all time but we are just going to leave that tea pot brewing for awhile.
