The U.S Women’s Gymnastic Team walked away with gold along with a new team nickname after their domination on Tuesday night of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
These women have now been nicknmed the Final Five!
We’re the Final Five because this is Marta [Karolyi’s] last Olympics and without her none of this would have been possible,” Aly Raisman explained on the Today show on Wednesday.
Coach Marta is retiring after the Rio games and this group of women wanted to pay respect to her for being with them every single day.
Raisman added: “This is the last Olympics where there’s a five-girl team. The next Olympics is only going to be a four-person team.”
The team dominated all of the events and went into their final rotation -floor rotation- five points ahead of their competition.
By the end of the competition, Simone Biles, 19, Gabby Douglas, 20, Raisman, 22, Madison Kocian, 19, and Laurie Hernandez, 16, – won by more than eight points in the Rio Olympic Arena.
