SNL: A Tribe Called Quest Pays Tribute to Phife Dawg; Watch Dave Chappelle’s Powerful Opening Monologue

Earlier this year the hip hop world mourned the loss of the great Phife Dawg who died at the age of 45.
But last night, the MC was honored on SNL by the remaining members of A Tribe Called Quest, who had just released new album We Got It From Here, Thank You 4 Your Service as a tribute to their fallen member the day before.

“We are all one. We are the people,” Q-Tip announced before he and Jarobi White launched into “We The People…,” an acidic new track from their sixth studio album. Midway through the track, Phife’s verse was announced with a flag unfurled onstage adorned with his face, which Q-Tip and Jarobi started rapping to for the rest of the song.

Later, Tribe returned to perform “The Space Program,” and received some special help from Busta Rhymes and Consequence. Dave Chappelle hosted the comedy show for the first time ever,watch is opening monologue below:
